The challenge
Named after the project team lead, G.M.Homsy, the Multimedia Fluid Mechanics DVD helped students understand the mathematics behind fluid flows. As DVD sales and usage continue to decrease globally, the Press wanted a new way to deliver the existing content to their customers.
The goal was to allow users to view animations and interact with virtual labs, complementing the standard textbooks on fluid mechanics. We were asked to provide User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) support for the digital platform.
The process
After defining the functionality of the DVD content and exploring possible future functionality, we mapped key user journeys and developed the architecture of the new digital platform.
We designed wireframes and tested them with users, validating the proposed functionality of the platform and surfacing any issues throughout the user journey and experience. Once we had designed the UI, we created guidelines and design directions for the development team to implement. In addition, we created a promotional animation for the launch of HOMSY.
The result
Informed by our design process, we developed an engaging and user-focused experience. This includes a refreshed design for the new online platform with dozens of interactive demonstrations and animations, virtual labs, simulations and videos.
Our work will help to ensure one of the Press’ most popular products can be used by students and institutions for years to come.
