At Make it Clear, our team of artwork designers take work that has been created by our designers and prepare them for production. This involves checking over the design and making changes or corrections to the text, images or layout.

Artworking provides clear and polished visuals that aid in displaying the final product and, therefore, making informed decisions.

Introduction to artworking

Artworking entails refining and preparing design assets and layouts to enhance brand identity, promote alignment with brand standards and produce an overall user-friendly experience.

What is artworking, and why is it important?

Consistency and high-quality visuals are central to producing high-quality design assets, and artworking ensures that all design elements, such as typography, colours and layouts are the same across digital assets and user interfaces. Well-structured design files are also easier to work with, which speeds up the process of implementing designs, managing and tracking design revisions and scaling.

The role of artworking

Artworking is a key step in the design process that enhances the design process and optimises outputs.

Benefits of artworking

Artworking ensures that brand guidelines are adhered to, content is written to a high standard, and there is attention to detail applied to the visuals we supply.

The 3 stages of artworking

Stage 1: Set up

Firstly, the size and orientation of the document is considered before the colour and organisation are established. Next, the style guide is set up, and text styles are set up to ensure everything is aligned.

Stage 2: Working on files

Next, the ideal layout is determined, and design elements are aligned to establish consistency on the page. Size, colour, contrast and position are used to highlight the hierarchy of important elements within the layout, and contrast is used in tandem with alignment and balance to give the layout a unique and eye-catching appearance. The elements of the layout are balanced, and fonts, images and copy are checked.

Stage 3: QA

Finally, our artworkers refer to the QA checklist and grammar is checked before the sign-off.

What’s included
